Translated in context, not line by line

A sentence often runs over two subtitles. The AI reads the lines around each one, so the translation still makes sense.

Frequently asked questions

Is the subtitle translator free?

Yes. Translating is free on every plan, as often as you like, and doesn’t use your monthly minutes. A translated SRT or VTT file you uploaded downloads free at any length; when you start from a video, free downloads are for videos up to 3 minutes.

Do I need an account?

Yes, a free one — that’s how translation stays free with no daily cap. Google or email, no card.

How long can my file be?

An SRT or VTT file can be any length, and downloading the translation is free. From a video, you can caption and translate up to 90 minutes; downloading the translated file is free for videos up to 3 minutes, with 30 minutes a month. Pro downloads it for videos up to 90 minutes.

Will the timing stay the same?

Yes. Only the text is translated. Every start and end time stays exactly as it was.

Which languages can I translate into?

100+ languages, including Spanish, French, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, Hindi and Arabic. Arabic, Hebrew and other right-to-left scripts are laid out right to left.

Can I get both languages in one file?

Yes, with Pro: one SRT or VTT with the original and the translation together. On the free plan, you download each language as its own file.

Which subtitle formats work?

SRT and VTT. Open either one, and download the translation as SRT or VTT. Other formats, such as ASS or SBV, don’t open.

Can I translate YouTube subtitles?

Yes, for your own videos. In YouTube Studio, open Subtitles, pick the video and download its subtitles as .srt. Translate the file here, then add it back in YouTube Studio as a new language. Pasting a YouTube link doesn’t work.

Is my file private?

We don’t keep your SRT or VTT file: its text is sent to an AI service to be translated. A video never leaves your device. Only its audio is sent to make subtitles; we don’t keep the audio, and the transcript is deleted after 30 days.
