Captions Generator (captionsgenerator.app, "we", "us") is a web app that adds captions and subtitles to your videos. This policy explains what data we handle, why, and what choices you have.

Your videos stay on your device

Your video file is opened and processed in your browser. Captions are drawn and the final video is exported on your own device. We never upload, see or store your video.

Audio sent for transcription

To create captions, your browser extracts the audio track and sends only that audio to our server. We pass it straight to our speech-recognition provider and return the transcript to your browser. We never store the audio. The provider processes the audio under its own privacy terms.

Transcripts we keep to improve quality

To check and improve how well our captions work, we keep a copy of each transcript for 30 days: the text and word timings returned by the speech-recognition provider, the captions we generated from them, and, when you export or download, the captions as you edited them. We use these only to find and fix problems in our captions (for example, line breaks in the wrong place). Only we can access them; we do not share or sell them or use them to train AI models. They are deleted automatically after 30 days. You can ask us to delete them sooner at any time.

Your account

You need a free account to generate captions. Sign-in is handled by our authentication provider. When you sign in with Google or with an email code, we receive your email address and, for Google, your name and profile picture. We use this only to identify your account and to contact you about it. We never post anything on your behalf and do not access any other Google data.

Usage records

For each transcription we record your account ID, the length of the media and the time, so we can apply plan limits and prevent abuse. Our servers also keep short-lived technical logs (such as error messages) to keep the service running.

Cookies

We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in, plus short-lived cookies that secure the sign-in process. We also use Google Analytics, which sets cookies to count visits and see which pages are used, so we can improve the site. We do not use advertising cookies.

Service providers

• Hosting provider: website hosting, our database and transcript storage.
• Authentication provider: sign-in and account management.
• Speech-recognition provider: transcription of the audio you submit.
• Payment partner: payments for Pro, as our merchant of record. It collects your payment details directly; we never see your card number. We receive your email, name, country and the status of your subscription.
• Google: optional "Sign in with Google", and Google Analytics for visit statistics.

Some of these providers process data outside the European Economic Area. Where they do, they rely on safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. We do not sell your personal data. You can ask us which providers we use at any time.

How long we keep data

We keep transcripts for 30 days (see above). We keep your account data and usage records while your account exists. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete them within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep records.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and object to or restrict how we use it. To do so, email us at the address below. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

Captions Generator is not intended for children under 16.

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we will tell you by email.
